A crash on I-70 killed an Enon man Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

Joshua Vanderpool, age 30, was westbound in the eastbound lane around 8:20 p.m. Vanderpool apparently tried to drive into the path of an eastbound semi. The semi driver tried to avoid Vanderpool\u2019s 2004 Pontiac Sunfire, but Vanderpool followed the semi.<\/p>\n

The semi struck Vanderpool\u2019s vehicle and dragged it over 300 feet before it was able to come to a stop. Shortly after impact, the semi burst into flames.<\/p>\n

One firefighter told us the Vanderpool\u2019s vehicle was \u201cin a ball under the truck.\u201d<\/p>\n

The semi driver, Denis Yatsunov of New Jersey, was \u201calert and walking around,\u201d according to Mad River Fire officials. He was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center for a minor injury from his seat belt.<\/p>\n

Witnesses stated that the driver of a FedEx truck was just ahead of the semi, stopped and assisted the semi driver. The FedEx driver apparently was gone upon our arrival.<\/p>\n

The driver of a vehicle that came upon the accident after it happened said that the driver of one of the trucks was telling other drivers to stay clear because he expected the semi to catch fire.<\/p>\n

Another firefighter was wondering out loud how the Vanderpool could have gone as far as he did. The next exit was Enon Rd., and the vehicle would have had to turn around to be heading westbound.<\/p>\n

Several heavy-duty trucks from Maine\u2019s Towing arrived on the scene to try to lift the semi off of the wrong-way vehicle.<\/p>\n

The crash is under investigation by the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Patrol.<\/p>\n

Mad River Fire crews were assisted by crews from Bethel Township, Hustead and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
