The Greenon Local Schools are gearing up for the start of the 2015-16 school year and shared some of the things that parents and students can expect as August quickly moves to the opening of the school house doors on August 26.

If you have driven out past the Greenon building on Rebert Pike you will notice that some of the grass area on the east side of the building has been cleared and mobile classroom units have been delivered. According to information provided by the district, the mobile units will be used this school year to “provide a variety of educational options to our students.” The district is reported to be “expanding” options and the mobile units will allow the district to utilize this expanded space for programming. The district has no long range goals at this time to maintain the mobile units, but will require them this year to offer what appear to be additional courses outside the regular curriculum based on the information provided to The Enon Eagle.

Parents and students are always eager to see the class lists as the big day approaches for the first day of school. The district will be holding an Open House at each building again this year where everyone can meet the teachers and building staff. A new face for the district will also be Superintendent Brad Silvas. Mr. Silvas is coming to Greenon Local after being hired by the board of education following the departure of Mr. Bennett to the Clark County Education Service Center earlier this year. The district will also be welcoming a new Administrative Assistant to the district with the departure of Megan Anthony who will also be moving to the Clark County ESC starting August 3.

Open House for Enon will be held on Monday, August 24 beginning at 5 pm. Indian Valley starts their event at 5:45 and the Greenon building will begin at 6:30pm.

Class lists and bus route information will be available for families on the doors of each building after 3 pm on Friday, August 21.

Parents are reminded that the State of Ohio is offering a onetime tax free holiday for school clothing and supplies this Friday, August 7, Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th.
