Greenon’s boys’ basketball team picked up their seventh win of the season this week, while winning two of three games.
The seventh win, coming Friday night at home against Indian Lake, equaled the number of wins secured in Tim Lacy’s first two seasons combined. This team is better in every way. Last Tuesday brought a 63-59 win over Emmanuel Christian. Josh Pilcher led three Knights in double figures with 19 points. Anthony Colletti had a double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for Greenon as they held off Emmanuel’s fourth-quarter comeback. Friday night’s game was another snapshot of the team’s progress since last season. Trailing 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Knights got it in gear in the second. Colletti got 10 points working inside, while Pilcher and Cody Carpenter broke down the defense from the perimeter. Jaden Tuttle and Tanner Aldredge combined for 13 points to keep Indian Lake in the game, but the momentum was clearly with Greenon, and the score was 32-25 at halftime. The third quarter was pure offense. Pilcher had 11 points on three treys; Colletti was strong on the offensive glass. Ivan Reichert went to the hole for eight points for the Lakers. At 56-45, the game was not yet out of reach. The Knights finished things emphatically in the fourth. Colletti went to the rim repeatedly and to the line. His nine points equaled the Lakers' entire output during the period. Indian Lake’s fans were angered by the officiating, but the Knights shot only three more free throws. The Lakers went 2 of 7 from the line in the final quarter. The Knights prevailed at last, 76-57. Colletti had 24 points and 17 rebounds; Pilcher had 21 on 9 of 12 shooting, and Carpenter had 17. Brennon Lump led Indian Lake with 14. The game left Greenon at 3-3 in the CBC, with a meeting at Tipp on Saturday night. Tippecanoe posted a 71-62 win, led by Brandon Ervin’s 30 points. Coletti’s sixth straight double double was not enough; the Knights are 7-9 with games coming up against Stebbins, Graham, and Ponitz. Coach Lacy credited his assistants, Matt Johnson and Steve Norris, for installing a new offense prior to the Friday night game. “We just have to hit those shots consistently. Indian Lake is a better team than their record shows, but when we hit shots, we can play with anybody.” Look for the next chapter in the rise of the Knights next week. |
