The Greenon Lady Knights are three-fourths of the way to matching last season’s victory total after a 48-20 domination of Stebbins at home Thursday night.  Whitney Robinson led the way with 15 points, and Teddi Tankersley had a double double, with 11 points and ten boards.  Moriah Scott and Taylor Miller played well, filling in for Liane Masquelier, who was ill.   Cold shooting Stebbins was led by Ashton Brandon’s 13 points.
The Knights clearly missed Masquelier at the beginning.  The Indians pressured in the backcourt with some success.  Brandon hit a couple of spot up jumpers and three free throws to give Stebbins a 7-1 lead.  After a time out, Scott drove the baseline for a score, then Miller converted a steal.  It was a manageable 9-7 Stebbins lead by the end of the first.
Robinson busted the Stebbins zone with a trey that gave her team its first lead.  Brandon came back with another jumper from “her spot" then Tankersley regained the lead for the Knights with a short jumper.  The Knights found their stride after that.  Robinson drove for a hoop after a great pass from Jenna Robertson. Tankersley hit a very long three, and Robinson followed with one of her own.  It was 22-16 at the half, and though the score was close, the momentum was clearly with Greenon.
The Knights turned the ball over to start the third quarter.  Brandon went down low, but Heather Slaughter blocked the shot; Brandon would manage only two more points after that.  In fact, Stebbins went seven-and-a-half minutes without a score, until Brandon made it 37-16 with 33 seconds left in the period.  That interrupted a 15-0 run for Greenon, but Robertson hit a three at the buzzer to start another one.  This one was 11-0, punctuated by Robinson's reverse layup with under three minutes left.  Coach Gary Falkenbach emptied his bench after that.  Bri Williams finally put the Indians on the board with 45 seconds left.
All this took place on the evening that Greenon retired Allie Turner’s number 13 jersey.  Turner, now a sophomore guard for Morehead State, was present with her family.  The emotions certainly helped the Knights excel over a team they clearly would defeat. Falkenbach said, “We played really good defense and ran our offense -- I don’t think we gave them a good shot all night.  We took Williams out of the game and got (Amber McFadden) in foul trouble.”
The Knights also faced Wayne last week, falling 65-40.  The margin was only 7 points after three quarters, but the Warriors put it away with a 26-9 fourth quarter onslaught.  Falkenbach said, “With 4:31 left, we were down six. They did what good teams do and put it away. We were right with them for three-and-a- half quarters.”
The Knights return to action next Wednesday at Northwestern.   The Warriors are led by guard Morgan Hosier and have lost eight in a row.
