Area Athletes Compete At Tipp Invitational PDF Print E-mail

The weather finally broke for a great day at the Tippecanoe Invitational cross country meet last week. Several area teams were involved, and one brought home a championship.

Greenon senior MacKenzie McMillin captured the girls’ championship, running an 11:54, a 13- second victory over her closest competitor.  Joining McMillin in the top 10 included teammate Lianne Masquelier, who placed fifth with a time of 12:40. Greenon senior Erica Miller was close behind, completing the course in 12:47, good enough for a seventh- place finish.


Other Greenon finishers in the race included freshman Brittany Kozak (13:18) who finished 18th, senior Mary Wenzell (25th, 13:38), Kelli Barker (36th, 14:00), Sydney Lewis (41st, 14:10), along with Katherine Shriver (14:41), Molly Sisco (14:44), Kim Schlabach (14:58), and Sara Nolan (15:25).


For Bethel, the top finisher was Morgan Weinert, with a time of 14:37.  Other Lady Bees finishers were Katelyn Koger (17:16), Dana Pencil (18:20) and Sydney Compton (18:28).


Tippecanoe’s top finishers in the girls race were Claudia Barhorst (12:53), Brinna Price (12:58), Alexandra Mahan (13:07), Katherine Wilcher (13:17), and Peyton Miller (13:22).  The Red Devils boys squad was highlighted by the individual champion Sam Wharton, with a time of 9:35.  Rick Andrews (10:24), Nick Noone (10:41), Michael Landwher (10:47), Grant Koch (10:58) and Jared Ringler (10:59) round out the top Tipp finishers.


On the boys side, Greenon senior Joshua McReynolds was the top finisher, with a time of 10:52, placing him in the top 25.  Knights freshman Andy Caldwell finished in 11:20, while senior Kyle McNeely ran the race in 11:23.


Taylor Bennington completed the course in 11:51, while other Greenon finishers include Seth Currier (12:07), Jeremy Bennett (12:10), Collin Auckerman (12:19), along with freshmen Zachary Zugelder and Thoren Long, who both finished the event in 12:20.


Bethel was led in the boys’ race by Aaron Reed, who ran an 11:27, while Cameron Keough ran 13:12 and Nicholas Bochenek had a 13:40.
Chase Heck had the best time for the Bethel junior high boys squad, completing the race in 13:22, while Benton Wright ran a 14:06, Matthew Posey (15:35), Sam Pencil (16:11), Brian Pencil (16:54), Jacob Vantilburg (16:56), along with Brandon Gilbert (18:21) and Tyler Weinert (18:42).


Tippecanoe and Greenon return to action on Saturday in the conference meet at Kenton Ridge, while Bethel participates in the Cross County Conference league meet.
