A crowd of people packed the Greenon Gymnasium to attend what they figured would be an otherwise uneventful Winter Sports Awards Banquet last week.  It turned out to be anything but uneventful as the Greenon administration surprised the players and the fans when they retired Senior Allie Turner's Indian Valley and Greenon # 13 Jersey at the end of the ceremony.

The retirement ceremony was a fitting way to celebrate the end of a basketball career that started in November 2006 when Turner splashed onto the high school scene by scoring 24 points - including seven 3-point baskets - in her varsity debut against Yellow Springs.  Turners career ended four years later with a home game last week against Kenton Ridge.  In between those games, Turner managed to accumulate several Greenon school and state records.

Turner will graduate this spring as the all time leader in points scored at both Indian Valley (658 points) and Greenon (2,079 points).   Her name will be entered into the girls state record book for over 10 scoring records, topped by her 93% free throw accuracy this season which ranks her # 2 all time in the Ohio High School State Record Book.  Turner's on court excellence will also allow her to obtain a free college education as she received a Division I full ride basketball scholarship to Morehead State University.  So, while Turner and her # 13 jersey have graced the basketball floor for the last time,  Greenon's decision to retire her jersey ensure's that her legacy and number will not be forgotten by the future generation of Greenon fans and basketball players.
