Mrs. Vera M. Wentz, 86, of Enon, began a new life April 8, 2010 in God’s kingdom.

She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart Garland R. Wentz, whom she married on 1/4/1945, her loving son Gary, her cherished parents Harry and Jeanette Puzniak, her in-laws Ray and Ruth Wence and family, and her beloved best friends Margaret Cash and Scooter.

Vera leaves behind her loving son and care giver Alan Wentz of Enon, Ohio, younger brother Edward “Bud” and Peg Puzniak of Ocala, Florida, brother-in-law Jim and Ruby Wentz of New Carlisle, Ohio and family, and sister-in-law Pat Dawicke of Dayton, Ohio and family. Also missing her are devoted grandchildren Michael and Marla (Jutte) Wentz, Kathy Wentz, David Wentz, and Elizabeth (Wentz) and Tim Walker, and five great-grandchildren: Hunter, Abigail, Griffin, Emma, and Hendrix.

Supportive and dear friends and family include Terri Jacobs and Chris Yochem, Sharel and Jeff Barnhart, James E. Hackett, Candice and Tom Frank, Bill and Helen Robison, Denny Jones, Fern Thielen, and others, too many to mention.

Vera was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, and moved to Dayton when she was 13 years old. She graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1941 and from Miami Jacobs in 1942, upon which she began work as a legal secretary.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother of two, she was a devoted care giver to many family members, and a lifelong volunteer who spent countless hours teaching English to illiterate adults and to those learning English as a second language.

Always very active in civic and church activities, for many years she produced newsletters for AARP and NARFE, and she won several awards for her work over the course of her life. Writing and reading were her passions, but her interests and hobbies were diverse: she also enjoyed cooking, baking, sightseeing, and fishing for walleye and perch on Lake Erie. She also loved nature and conservation and supported many animal-related charities.

Visitation will be held at Adkins Funeral Home in Enon on Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 from 6pm-8pm. Services will be held at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church in Enon at 1pm, Wednesday, April 14th with burial to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle. In lieu of flowers Vera requested that donations be made in her name to the Animal Welfare League of Clark County, c/o L. Adams, 701 Basswood Ave. Springfield, Ohio 45504.
