The long-planned-for bus service for Mad River Township took another step toward fruition Monday night, June 27, when the Board of Trustees approved $5,000 to partner with the City of New Carlisle.  The Village of Enon will not be participating in the project at this point.  The schedules and routes have been rebid, with service now looking to begin late this summer or early autumn.  Trustee Kathy Estep said that surveys done had indicated a sufficient level of interest to proceed.   The township will recoup its investment by sharing in fare and advertising revenues.  The cost to users is expected to be $1.00.
The township and Enon are cooperating to purchase ADA compliant playground equipment for Galloway Park.  Both jurisdictions will contribute $1,400 toward the cost.  The trustees also approved a donation of $1,000 for this year’s fireworks display, which will occur on Tuesday, July 3.  Enon Fire Chief Dave Leist said that the Fourth of July Parade will line up at noon on Wednesday, the 4th, at Indian Valley Middle School.   Frank Giampetro, “Mr. G.” from Greenon Schools, and a long-time EMS instructor, will serve as the grand marshal, after having to miss last year’s parade due to illness. The Fire and EMS Association will sponsor an open house at the firehouse after the parade, and the grill will be in full flame (pardon the pun). Look for that to start around 2:30 p.m.
Trustee Bob McClure stated that a traffic study is being undertaken to determine the proper actions needed at the intersection of Fairfield and Hunter, which has been the subject of citizen complaints recently.  McClure added that the trustees attended a workshop on the disposal of condemned properties and the availability of grants to fund such work.
Chief Leist commended his department’s efforts in honoring the late Roland Pyles.  The department conducted a well-attended service at the firehouse, rang the bells, and put out a last call for Pyles.  Brenda Pyles-Sweet sent a letter to the trustees thanking everyone for the honor and respect shown her father’s memory.  Estep and McClure added their thanks.
The neighborhood watch group will meet Wednesday, June 27th at 7 p.m. at the firehouse.  The trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 2 to approve their tax budget with the regular meeting to follow at 7:30 p.m.
