Bumpy’s Place first opened in July of 2009 at 59 E. Main St., and has since then been known for its older style candy and sodas.  When the store opened, owner Lori Puhala wanted a place where people could come in and experience a sense of nostalgia.“She always wanted to have her own business in a Little House on the Prairie style,” said Scott Puhala, co-owner.
The shelves are filled with classic candies like wax bottles and candy cigarettes, but Bumpy’s Place still provides customers with well-known candy like Snickers and Skittles. All of their merchandise comes from Ohio distributers.  Items in the store were meant to take customers back to their childhood the moment they walk in the store. “We asked people we knew what they liked when they were young, and then we tried to find it,” said Scott.
At the beginning of this year they started to expand their inventory by selling different types of clothing and a variety of antique collectibles.“We are just trying to broaden our horizons,” said Scott. “We like old collectible stuff, and we want to pass it on to others.” Some of these items include different pieces of glassware, a pirate-shaped decanter, and painted pottery.
Although the shelves are filled with candies and antiques, their biggest sellers however, are their many varieties of homemade fudge. “She probably makes about 50 lbs. of fudge a week,” said Scott.  The fudge is available in a variety of flavors including Heath Bar, Apple Butter, Rice Crispy Treat, and many more.  A full list of the flavors and how to order the fudge is available on a link through their Facebook group.
Bumpy’s Place may have had added new inventory, but they will continue to be known for their classic candies and memories.
