The Mad River Township Trustees emerged from a lengthy executive session last Monday night, tight lipped.  The subject of the session, which came during a regular meeting, was the township’s personnel policy.  The recent reburial of a local woman and its handling of it by the township have sparked a flurry of activity.  The board has been working to recast the duties of the cemetery sexton.  The new regulations will be sent to the county prosecutors for review.  No action was taken after the session.  Don O’Connor, who has served as the sexton in addition to his duties as the Road Department supervisor, was not present at the meeting.
In the regular session, the only action of note was the tabling of a motion to give the township’s hourly employees a 50-cent raise.  Trustee President Joe Catanzaro specifically moved that the fire/EMS employees get the increase.  Rather than second Catanzaro’s motion, Kathy Estep moved to amend the motion to include all township employees.  Catanzaro’s motion died for lack of seconding, and the issue was dropped, to be reconsidered in June.  Upon questioning from the audience, Estep indicated that only two employees would have been affected by her amendment.  The meeting was adjourned shortly thereafter.  Catanzaro did not illuminate the reason that his motion excluded the unspecified employees.  The trustees set a work session for Monday, Jan 23.  The next regular meeting will take place on Monday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m.
