Clark County residents can recycle up to four scrap tires free of charge and an additional six tires for $1 each at a tire recycling event on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Clark County Recycling Center, 1602 W. Main St., Springfield.

The Clark County Waste Management District is sponsoring this event to celebrate America Recycles Day, an annual observance of the importance of recycling. Tires are targeted for recycling because they are unsuitable for landfills and tire piles are a threat for fire and breeding of mosquitoes.

The tire collection is for Clark County residents only. No business or farm tires will be accepted.

No more than 10 tires will be accepted from each customer.

The Clark County Recycling Center regularly accepts scrap tires for a fee of 10 cents a pound on Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m., and the first Saturday of the month, 9 a.m. to noon.

For more information, call 521-2025 or go to www.32TRASH.org.
