Enon Village Council member Diana Ballard accused the Enon Eagle, during Tuesday night’s meeting, of trying to mislead the public in a recent story.

She was referring to a front page article headlined “Ballard gets her way – no fountain for Settler’s Park.”

Ballard stated, “There were several discrepancies in the article and it is written to mislead the public as if we were against the water fountain, which we were not.”

“There was no ‘short notice’ to the June 14 meeting,” Ballard continued.  “I had discussed with Mrs. Travis and Mrs. Thomas about the convenience of their calendar, when we scheduled the meeting for June 14^th at 6 p.m. it was different to their convenience, however, I have to consider the committee as a whole, so it was not convenient to the committee’s calendar.

“I personally called Mrs. Travis to remind her that the meeting was legally posted and asked if she had seen that there would be a meeting on the 14 and she at that point in time told me that she was unable to attend.  I said anyone from the Lioness group is more than welcome to attend and I discussed that at the meeting that I had on the 14.  So, therefore, I feel that this article was not correct.”

Marge Travis, Treasurer of the Enon Lioness Club, said that she had no advance notice of the change of the meeting time.  “She [Ballard] called me around 8 on the morning of the 14^th to inform me that she had changed the meeting to that evening,” said Travis.  “I had a National Trails meeting that I had to attend and could not attend hers.”

“I have never spoken to the woman [Ballard], except at the May 25 council meeting,” said Beth Thomas, President of the Enon Lioness Club.

“Beth and I had rearranged our schedules to attend the June 16 meeting,” said Travis.  “We just couldn’t rearrange again with only ten hours’ notice.”

Council never voted to accept the donation.  A motion to that effect was made at the May 25^th meeting, but Ballard wanted the issue referred to the Parks & Recreation Committee.
